Pepper Berry Plantations

Goulds Country

Gould's Country plantation

We first established our native pepper plantation in 2005 at our property in the picturesque valley of Goulds Country in the North East Highlands of Tasmania.

We continue to expand each year, planting specially selected cuttings from high yielding trees.

Native peppers grow naturally in this area and our farm at Goulds Country has proved to be a very successful location for a plantation. We harvested our first commercial crop of berries in 2015.

Our aim is to expand and grow our business as our established trees produce more berries each year and our new trees become ready for harvest.

Lottah

We also own land at Lottah, an abandoned tin mining town in the foothills of the Blue Tier, a few kilometres from Goulds Country.

Since 2006 we have been establishing a plantation on our land and have also planted out the roadsides with native pepper hedges.

We first harvested berries in 2016, and continue to expand the plantation each year.

Wild Harvest

We also harvest native pepper berries from several private farms in the North-East Highlands, the trees grow naturally in the alpine paddocks and are harvested by hand.

We fertilize our wild harvest, protect young trees from browsing animals and hand prune to improve the health of the trees.

We hope to establish more trees in suitable areas on these farms to improve the wild harvest for the future.

Our aim is to harvest sustainably and we always leave enough berries on the trees for birds such as the black currawong to feed on and to allow for natural seed dispersion and regeneration.
